Defence Against the Dark Arts | Harry Potter Replica Books

This absolutely gorgeous and huge book (featuring 877 pages!) is created entirely by an amazing graphic designer/illustrator by the name of Alarmeighteen. It also came with a very cute Knight Bus ticket.

Unfortunately, it is not available for purchase anymore due to Warner Bros shutting it down due to copy-write/trademark infringement issues.

One thing you’ll notice about this book is that right side of the book is the content written in English, with the left side dedicated entirely to the same content in Latin.
This blog post consists of over 240 photos of this amazing book so grab yourself a cup of tea and get comfy.

Introduction

The first chapter we have is the introduction which consists of information about the book, The Dark Arts, and brief introductions to Dark Spells, Jinxes, Hexes, Curses, Dark Potions, Dark Artefacts and Magical Creatures.

Curriculum

Chapter two consists of spell classifications. There is the Trio of Spells (Dark Spells – Jinxes, Hexes & Curses), Spell Forms (Charm, Transfiguration & Conjuration) and Response Spells (Counter, Healing & Protective) as well as the stand-alone aspects of Touch Spells and Elemental Spells. This gives a total of eleven subcategories which can be assigned to each spell, and some spells can fall into multiple categories.

The book is split up into different skill levels, starting from the fundamentals,  and basic study, through to mastering of the most complex concepts and spells. Each level chapter has a section on spells and another section on magical creatures and I assume that each “level” is in reference to the year level at Hogwarts; level one would be Year 1 and so on.

Level One

L1 – Spells

Each spell is listed with background information regarding what the spell is, the phonetic pronunciation, it’s spell classification, the light it emits when cast, the effect and its’ counter. Not shown is more information about each spell which gives more history behind the spell, as well as it’s application and much more information depending on the spell.

L1 – Magical Creatures

Each magical creature comes with background information of the animal, along with what classification it is, threat level, location, size, colour, sociality and col. N. It also details different species (if applicable) and spells that you might use against the creature if required (see the bat for an example).
