Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Trailer Review

IT’S FINALLY HERE! I am so very excited to share with you guys the trailer of the new Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald movie being released November 16th!

1.JPGStarting with an opening shot of our much loved Hogwarts (oh the nostalgia!) we get introduced to some new characters apparating onto long aqueduct within the school. For all those concerned about this plot hole, the “no apparating into Hogwarts” rule only came into effect when Dumbeldore became headmaster and at this point in time he was only the Transfiguration professor.

It looks as those these characters are a group of aurors (or possible other Ministry personnel) that are seeking the whereabouts of Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) by questioning a young Albus Dumbledore (played by Judas Law).

“I have some questions for you, Professor.”
“This is a surprise”
“There is a rumour that Newt Scamander is headed to Paris. I know he is working under your orders. What do you have to say for yourself, Dumbledore?”
“If you’ve ever had the pleasure to teach him, you’d know Newt is not a great follower of orders.

“The times coming Newt, when you’re gonna have to pick a side.”
I’m still curious as to who this group of people is and what the lady is holding. It looks like an orb, perhaps a prophecy?

Our favourite muggle Jacob Kawolski (played by Dan Folger) makes another appearance, surround by some magical beasts. You can see the cute little mooncalves peering over the top of some kind of barrier, alongside a large bird and a moose looking animal in the background.
“Are you going somewhere?”
“No. We’re going somewhere”

As I’m sure most of you all know, Credence Barebone (played by Ezra Miller) the obscurial, also reappears after many fans were not sure if he was actually killed in the first movie, but Newt notices a little sliver of him slipping away so his appearance is not a surprise! Sitting next to him is, I believe, a character who is not named yet, but is a Maledictus; meaning someone whose blood was cursed and will eventually turn into a beast. I have a theory that these two are together for support (or possibly more it’s too early to judge now) due to their afflictions.

We also get our first look at Leta Lestrange who is known to have some history with Newt (he took the blame for a dangerous magical creature incident at Hogwarts and was therefore expelled in her place). Could this be her engagement party or wedding with Theseus Scamander (Newt Scamander’s brother)?7.JPG

It’s very exciting to see our first glimpse at the wizarding circus although we don’t get to see too much in terms of what beasts might be involved.

Another scene that caught my attention was this one with a group of thestrals pulling a carriage as they make a dramatic leap off the top of a large building. This carriage is also followed by two wizards on broomsticks. It is possible they are MACUSA wizards or, as this is set in Paris, their equivalent.

I’m still not sure how I feel about Johnny Depp playing Grindelwald, but I do have to admit he does look a lot better in the trailer than when he briefly appeared in the first Fantastic Beasts movie.

“I can’t move against Grindelwald, it has to be you” Dumbledore says to Newt.

The Scamander brothers Newt and Theseus both are both seen to be fighting against something before casting a dramatic looking spell together, possibly during their fight against Grindelwald. If you didn’t know, at this time, Theseus Scamander was the head of the British Auror Office.

I am so very very excited for this and I hope to hear all your fan theories in the comments below!
